Coalition for Community Schools Research Practice Network, April 2

Our team co-presented in a national town hall co-sponsored by the Coalition of Community School’s Research Practice Network and the National Network of University-Assisted Community Schools. Presentations by Ariana Dimagiba, Beth Trinchero, Adriane Nguyen, Jonathan Oyaga, Julia Jenkins, and Karen Hunter Quartz highlighted concrete, replicable strategies for building and sustaining impactful Research-Practice Partnerships that expand college access and support the transition to college for first-generation BIPOC students. National Center for Teacher Residencies Symposium, April 9-11

Wendy Salcedo-Fierro recently shared about the Teacher Prep Partnership at the UCLA Community School. Her presentation highlighted the intentional design of the UCLA Community School as a a teacher-led school and as a residency site or “teaching school” for UCLA’s Teacher Education Program.

American Educational Research Association, April 23-27

Dr. Jeffrey Yo (pictured left) shared his work on teacher ethnic/racial match in STEM classrooms. Natalie Fensterstock presented about the role of social workers in preventing school-based violence. Drs. Karen Hunter Quartz and Marisa Saunders presented on Community and Alternative School Policies during an education policy research roundtable session. In addition, many members of our Center attended a special World Cafe session honoring the legacy of Jeannie Oakes.

Coalition for Community Schools Research Practice Network, April 29

Drs. Marisa Saunders and Jeffrey Yo presented about their research on supporting teachers through the community schooling strategy at the Coalition for Community Schools’ latest Research Practice Network webinar. They presented alongside researchers from universities across the nation who shared their place-based approaches to teacher preparation, mentoring, professional development, and reflective practices.
