This chapter, “UCLA Community School: Creating a Workplace Culture that Sustains Social Justice Educators”, was published in Preparing and Sustaining Social Justice Educators in 2021. The chapter tells the story of the UCLA Community School through five brief stories, which are told chronologically with the aim of highlighting the collective agency of social justice educators at the UCLA Community School. The authors conclude by situating these stories in the larger policy debates about urban teacher retention and community schooling.
